Ben Jammin' Beats
Q&A / Ben Jammin' Beats
What or who inspired you to start making music?
-
What we call “old school hip hop” now is what got me into making beats. The “head bobbing” element of old hip hop beats was so inspiring to me and drove me to figure out how to make my own music in that style.
Aside from lofi/chill beats, what is your favorite music genre?
-
90s alternative/pop! Sugar Ray has a way of bringing me back and it’s that nostalgia that keeps our parents listening to Van Halen. I finally understand why people hold on to the music they knew growing up.
What’s one thing about you that surprises people?
-
I dabble in rapping here and there. I used to perform live in college all the time actually, but when I graduated I switched to instrumental stuff and chilled out.
What do you wish you could tell yourself five years ago?
-
It’s not going to happen overnight - but be patient (more patient than you want to be) - and your time will come.
In the last five years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?
-
MORNING AFFIRMATIONS! Telling myself, "you’re going to kill it today!" Rather than rolling out of bed, hating life, and not wanting to work or do chores. The mindset change has been mentally and physically life-changing.
