Q&A / CRFT
What or who inspired you to start making music?
-
While growing up in Houston, TX, my big sister’s boyfriend was in a rap group called The Pink Afros. I thought it was cool that he created his own music! I was taking piano lessons during those days too (I was in 1st or 2nd grade). But I actually started making music in high school, heavily influenced by hip-hop acts/movements like Gangstarr (especially DJ Premier), Ras Kass, A Tribe Called Quest, OutKast, Company Flow, and the west coast G-funk era.
Where do you feel the most centered and happy?
-
Oh for sure when I’m in the studio making music. Playing and tweaking things in Ableton is peaceful, spiritual work to me.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
-
My father told me that music is a powerful influence for people. When he noticed that I liked making music, he told me to make music with positive messages that inspire people to do good things.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Why?
-
I love where I am here in the Greater Atlanta area. Family is here. There are four distinct seasons, great schools, affordable real estate, and so many talented artists and musicians out here!
How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
-
Smooth beats that are heavily influenced by jazz, electronic, and soul.
